Several Typical Air Conditioning Systems for Electric Vehicles

Air conditioning system formAdvantagesDisadvantages
Single cooling system + PTC electric heatingThe structure is simple, the air conditioning system on the fuel vehicle can be used, and the portability is strongLow efficiency, great impact on cruising range
heat pump systemHigh efficiency, energy saving compared to PTC auxiliary heating systemLow temperature environment performance can not meet the demand for heating
Jet-filled heat pump systemHigh efficiency, good low temperature heating performanceThe cost is high, the system is complex, and the control technology requirements are high
Waste heat recovery heat pump systemHigh efficiency, energy savingHigh cost, complex system, complex control system
Waste heat recovery heat pump system with compressor self-heatingSave PTC costs and expand system operation scopeHigh control technology requirements and high compression reliability requirements

In addition, heat pumps are also classified as follows (from how to heat the passenger compartment)

Direct heat pump:

Advantages: Fast heating rate, relatively high COP

Disadvantages: If it is a high-pressure wind heating PTC, it has certain insulation safety requirements, large wind fluctuation and high NVH requirements. If it is a liquid-cooled battery board, a water circuit is still needed to ensure battery heating in winter, thus increasing the cost.

Indirect heat pump:

Advantages: The traditional air-conditioning box can be used, and the portability is strong; the battery and the air-conditioning system can be coupled for heating and the operation stability is good; there is no safety issue with high pressure in the cabin.

Disadvantages: The heating rate is slow at low temperature and requires PTC assistance; the cost of more water pumps and water valves; more heat loss, and the COP is relatively low; there are more operating restrictions in low temperature environments than direct heat pumps.
